Lady Midnight, Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight, Cassandra Clare

*Spoiler alerts* I have waited for this book for what feels like forever.  I loved the clockwork series, and the Mortal Instruments books.  Then the Baine Chronicles.  These characters, their world enthralled me.   I was thrilled to see Emma Carstairs and Jules. (We first meet them toward the end of the Mortal Instruments stories).  I loved that we got to see more of what happened after the war.

Five years later, to be exact.  Emma Carstairs is one of the best shadow hunters.  Beautiful and smart, fierce and sarcastic she is a force to be reckoned with.  All she cares about is her new family- the one her parabatai gave her- and revenge.  She knows her parents weren’t victims of the war.  With her friend Christina and her new family she keeps her own investigation.  Finally, there seems to be a link.  Bodies are showing up- humans and fairy- with the same type of markings that her parents had.

But Emma and the Blackthorns aren’t the only ones that know.  The fairies come to them with an offer they can’t refuse.  Mark Blackthorn, in exchange for the murderers.  The eldest brother of the clan had been given to The Wild Hunt after the war, being half fairy.  Now, at last he would have the choice to be with his family or continue The Hunt.

This book was exciting and fast paced.  It was filled to the brim with intrigue and betrayal and deep, forbidden love (for, honestly, does Clare write about any other kind?).  I was spellbound,  and I want more.

This book came out last Tuesday- go get it!

On the adult content scale I give it a three.  Some language and sexual content, but neither remotely explicit.
