I received a copy of this book as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review.  Hale is not an author that I had heard of before, but I am so glad I found this.  It is sweet and thoughtful, very much a meeting of minds and souls.  You can feel the connection between Sebastian and Rebecca grow, and I loved that.

Rebecca Beaton is the companion to her old charge Hermione, and very happy for her friend who found love with Claude Stanhope.  Who isn’t happy?  His brother Viscount Benedict.  On Sebastian’s first encounter with Rebecca he mistakes her for Hermione and asks her to not marry his brother.  He lists his reasons- her age, inexperience in society and lack of funds- and is surprised when she agrees (why not, Rebecca doesn’t want to marry Claude).  After he leaves, Rebecca feels guilty for her lie of omission, but she has to keep her friend safe.  Claude tells Sebastian that he asked the wrong girl.

As the couples keep coming together, you can see Rebecca and Sebastian grow closer with long discussions and shared secrets.  But love is not always an easy road.  Sebastian, still worried about his brother puts a plan into action that ruins everything.  Instead of feeling relieved for having saved his brother again, he realizes that he made a terrible mistake.  Can he fix it?  And can he get Rebecca back?

I was charmed by the sweet romance of this book.  I loved the play between characters, all of whom had the best of intentions that very often went awry.  It was charming and well paced.   I will be looking for more of her books.Four Stars
