First, a huge thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for giving me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Eleanor Blackwood was the only witness to her mother’s murder as a child. Years of therapy later, it still haunts her life. She wasn’t able to give a description, and the killer never got caught. Even with hypno-therapy she couldn’t discover anything to help. Eighteen years after the murder, she is running in those woods and sees a body. Right where her mother died! She calls the police and they go canvas the woods… and find nothing.
Now the town thinks she is crazy and maybe they are right. She can’t leave it alone, though, she knows what she saw! So where did the body go? And who is doing this? As she starts her own investigation, someone is watching her too. Someone wants Eleanor’s attention and will stop at nothing to make her their number one girl.
I loved this book! I felt for Eleanor, pained from her past and vulnerable but wanting so badly to be strong. I really liked the side characters as well, especially Hannah and Tris. The plot, while a tad far fetched, was well written and interesting. I did not care for the way the police were portrayed, though, arresting one man after another in hopes of just finishing the case. All in all, it was a great book with really well developed characters. Five Stars!
On the adult content scale… a seven. Language, lots of violence and explicit sexual content.
The book comes out 9-27-2016. If you like Lisa Unger, I think you will really like this.
