Before the summary, I would like to thank Netgalley and Forever publishing for giving me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Alf has spent most of her life on the streets of Saint Giles dressed as a boy to keep herself safe. By day, she is an informant; by night she is the new Ghost of St. Giles. Taught by the former Ghost, she wields her swords to protect those in trouble. When the Duke of Kyle is ambushed near her hunting grounds, Alf drops in to protect him. The next morning she is called to his house as Alf the informant, to find out who is after him. When her inquiries prove dangerous, Hugh (Kyle) decides to keep Alf close so as to protect him. He is still going through things at home with his sons, both still shook up after their mother’s passing. Add to that he has just learned that the Ghost is a woman now, and one who kissed him. He wants to find her. He also has been charged by the king to find the rest of The Lords of Chaos and bring them down. It’s a full plate and he doesn’t need an imp messing with him. Yet he likes Alf, the boys love him…. and when he discovers her secret it seems perfect. She can help him even better as a woman! Can Alf leave her disguise behind, though, and leave herself open even for a man she has come to love? And can Hugh learn to trust his judgment where she is concerned and hand over his own heart?
I have been waiting for this story since I finished Duke of Sin. I fell in love with Alf there. She is an amazing character, with a lot of heart. I loved her sass, and her courage. Watching her and Hugh made me happy. I really enjoyed the play between characters. I was a bit surprised that this does not tie up the series, but I am also excited for the next book. The writing was fast paced, the plot was great and the character interaction was superb.
On the adult content scale, there is a large amount of violence, language and some very steamy sex scenes. I would give it an eight.
The book comes out 11-29-2016, be ready!
