Cross the line, James Patterson

lg-crossTheLinespolier alertTitle: Cross the Line

Author: James Patterson

Pages:  400

Genre: Mystery

Part of a series?  Yes, this is book #24 of the Alex Cross series.

The COD is gunned down, and a former cop looks good for it.  Can things really be that simple, though?   Before they can make headway on this case, Alex and partner Sampson are pulled to another.  A large amount of murders are happening in quick succession and the only tie is that the victims are all criminals or breaking the law in some way.  How do you stop a killer that thinks they have justice on their side?

As an aside, we get more time with Janie and Ali Cross; plus Bree steps into a new position.  The family dynamics that I love in this series are here in full force.

Now, if you read Cross Kill, James Patterson I do have to warn you- this book predates the happenings there so we will be waiting another year for that cliff hanger to be wrapped up.  Thankfully, he has addressed the issue, and Patterson posted this in reply to questions from his fans:

This made me feel slightly better, because I have to say I was upset that this book was before the bookshot in the Cross timeline.  It took a bit for me to calm down and take this book for what it was- a great installment in the series- instead of being angry because it was not the book I wanted.  It wasn’t too long, though, before I became wrapped up in this new dramatic mystery.  The characters were amazing, our villain especially (that is something that I respect with this series- the bad guys are well fleshed out and intriguing even as you hate them).  I loved the play between characters, and that we got more Cross family time.  All I can say is, don’t go in with preconceived notions and you will love this book.  Five Stars

On the adult content scale, there’s quite a bit.  Drugs, violence, language, human trafficking, and sexual content.  I give it a seven.  mature audience.

The book is out now- go get it!
